There are often very important differences between a funeral in the UK and an overseas one. Usually, the speed of the funeral process Internationally, is dramatically swifter than the one we are accustomed to back in the United Kingdom. For example, in Spain the funeral normally takes place within 48 hours of your death. Pre-planning will relieve some of the pressure that is laid on the shoulders of grieving relatives who may have no idea who to call, how to register a death, and may have to travel long distances to be there.

In addition, language barriers can make organising a funeral quite difficult if your friends or family are not fluent speakers of the language. By pre-planning, you can lift the barrier of language differences when organising an overseas funeral.

Your Golden Leaves Funeral Plan doesn’t just cover you for your death in your country of residence. If you currently reside in Spain, Portugal, or Cyprus, your plan will automatically have a twinned UK set of arrangements (providing you have a UK residential address) set up for you at the time of original purchase. As funerals in the United Kingdom and Internationally are fundamentally different, there may or may not be additional sums to pay.

Depending on where you normally reside, the purchase value of the services can either be utilised to fully pay for services in the country of death, or can be contributed to the total cost, with the remainder required to be paid at the time of need.

Most expats choose a plan that assumes their funeral will take place in their country of residence. However, if you’d prefer for your body to be repatriated and to have a funeral on your home soil, we have a funeral plan specially designed to facilitate this.
